Hi friends!
Last Thursday Sara and I took a trip to the Turkish Family Market! We wanted to pick out some Turkish treats to taste. Before we went to the market we learned that the population of Turkey is 81,619,392 and that money is called Turkish Lira.
In our research we also discovered that one of the most popular treats in Turkey is the Turkish Delight! Turkish Delights, or Lokum in Turkish, are a jelly candy made from sugar, water and lemon juice. They were created in Istanbul (a big city in Turkey) in the 1700s. We decided to keep an eye out for these treats!
Sure enough, the Turkish Family Market had a whole section of Turkish Delights! We picked out a flavor made from rose petals! I found out that mint and rose petal are classic flavors in Turkey (there are many different flavors). One non-classic Turkish Delight is triple chocolate!
On Friday, during our Live Facebook and Instagram Live event we tried all of our snacks. We had such fun interacting with everyone! We had Turkish gum and I was surprised by how hard it is. I am used to gum that is chewier and more flavorful. We also had instant milkshake powder. We had to add milk and shake it for over a minute. I had vanilla which was delicious!
Thank you for joining us and for all of the great questions! If you missed it, you can still watch us tasting the Turkish treats on our Facebook page. Find us again this Thursday and Friday on Facebook or Instagram!
