Hi Friends!
Last Monday Sammy and I went to the International Food Market in Baltimore to buy snacks from Russia. It was a fun adventure! I was quick to find the candy section and fill up a bag with Russian candy. The only problem at the market was that we couldn’t read the Russian labels, so we had to guess what we wanted to try. One piece of candy that I picked out was a chocolate covered strawberry (with a candy strawberry), it was pretty good but I like real chocolate covered strawberries better.
The coolest treat we found was a meringue shaped treat called a Zephyr. The woman who worked at the store called it a “Russian Marshmallow”.
A Zephyr has the consistency of a marshmallow, but doesn’t taste like one. We discovered that zephyrs are made from fruit puree and egg whites. As sweet as zephyrs look, they are actually considered a healthy snack!
One of my favorite snacks is called Ruzik. They look like corn puffs. I was expecting ruzik to taste salty, but they were really sweet and delicious. I also loved the traditional Russian chocolate. It was SO good, and very creamy. Sammy even admitted that he liked it, and says he doesn’t like chocolate. 🙂
